Government investigators have found that skilled nursing facilities (SNF) may not be meeting basic requirements to look after their elderly residents. In February, the Department of Health and Human Services created a report that shows overwhelming statistics of the overall deficiency in the quality of services provided from nursing homes to our elderly loved ones, their residents. For example, one statistic shows that about one in every five patients’ care plans do not address health concerns and problems such as the usage of prescription accordingly by required government directives. These deficient standards put high risk to physical elder abuse such as serious side effects from prescription drugs and no procedural regulation in terms of basic, everyday care. The report mentions a grave concern about what Medicare is funding with $5.1 billion of taxpayer money. Other concerns that should be noted are ensuring that our elderly loved ones are receiving the crucial assistance they require and, more importantly, avoiding possible physical elder abuse.
