This Or That: Medicare Just Helped Everyone Compare Nursing Homes
Nursing Home Compare
Nursing home selection is a problem in our country, state, and even our own San Mateo County, and this should come as almost no surprise. We recently discovered a tool that can help individuals choose more wisely which nursing home they themselves and their loved ones are sent to: Nursing Home Compare, on Medicare’s website: https://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/search.html
With Nursing Home Compare, an individual can type in a zip code, city, state, or specific nursing home and be presented with an enormous amount of information. Some of this information is general, such as health inspection rating, reported quality, number of beds, etc. Other useful information relates to health and safety inspection, staffing, quality measures, and penalties, which tells someone the amount the nursing home has paid in violations and when the violations were issued.
In a time when nursing home abuse is increasing dramatically, it is important to protect the safety of all elders. This new tool can potentially help seniors and their family members to make informed and trusted decisions when it comes to the people that they love. At Evans Law Firm, we very much support this type of online tool, as no senior should be abused in a nursing home, and no family should feel that their loved one is in an unsafe situation.
