San Francisco Elder Abuse Attorney: Elder Evictions and Other Forms of Elder Abuse

ATTORNEY NEWSLETTER

Elder Evictions and Other Forms of Elder Abuse Are Rising

Ingrid M. Evans has spoken out publicly on evictions of the elderly as elder abuse before.[1] She and the other elder abuse attorneys at Evans Law Firm remain dedicated to fighting for seniors. Reports of elder evictions and other forms of elder abuse are increasing throughout the Bay Area. The consequences are heart-breaking. Over the past few years, dozens cases of elder evictions have been reported in the Bay Area, including evictions of 100-year-old Iris Canada, and Ron Likkers and Elaine Turner, all of whom died within days or weeks of being evicted from their longtime San Francisco homes. Authorities report that all forms of financial elder abuse are on the rise in San Francisco.  The Evans Law Firm represents victims of any type of elder abuse throughout the Bay Area.  If you or a loved one has been the victim of any kind of elder abuse in San Francisco or elsewhere in the Bay Area call the Evans Law Firm today at (415)441-8669 and we can help.

Housing issues face many vulnerable seniors as one form of elder abuse. Senior tenants may face sky-rocketing rents and uninhabitable conditions particularly in low-income, Section 8 or market housing units.  Elder homeowners may face foreclosures on mortgages and reverse mortgages too, resulting in harmful relocations for fragile seniors, or even homelessness.  These seniors may be victims of financial elder abuse by lenders and others, when, for example, a senior with dementia is talked into a reverse mortgage without understanding the risks involved.

In addition to housing problems, seniors can be victims of other, equally disastrous, forms of financial elder abuse. Strangers, caregivers, financial advisors, insurance agents and agents with Powers of Attorney for seniors prey on vulnerable seniors, exploiting them for personal gain.  If you’re the loved one of a senior, stay involved in his or her life to guard against any kind of financial exploitation.  Keep an eye on all financial accounts.  Drop by unexpectedly and speak with you senior loved one alone to find out what’s going on.  Never ever allow a senior to grant a Power of Attorney to a caregiver.  If you suspect abuse, notify the authorities but immediately seek the advice of elder abuse counsel, such as the elder abuse lawyers at Evans Law Firm, who can help you hold those responsible for any elder abuse accountable.
