Recently, a local TV station reported alleged elder abuse in an unlicensed nursing home here in our city. The coverage was particularly heart-wrenching. Elders allegedly slept on mattresses on the floor. The walls were reportedly covered in filth. According to one resident, there was little food and no medication. As he put it, it was a “nightmarish place.” Several residents needed immediate medical attention. Authorities removed more than a half-dozen residents and are conducting an investigation of the unlicensed facility.
Elder abuse, of course, is not always so graphic. But it is always serious. If you suspect abuse, act at once. We encourage you to report any elder abuse to the authorities, but at the same time pursue all the remedies afforded by law.
