San Francisco and California Nursing Home Abuse Attorneys: Wandering and Elopement Dangers for Seniors

ATTORNEY NEWSLETTER

Wandering: A Real Danger With Alzheimer’s Sufferers

Wandering (also known as elopement) is a common behavior for older persons suffering from dementia, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease impairs memory and those with impaired memory are often disoriented and incapable of recognizing their surroundings or finding their way home.  In-home caregivers and nursing homes are responsible for the care and monitoring of these individuals.  Through negligence or carelessness facilities and caregivers may allow patients to wander unsafely throughout a home or even leave the home or facility and wander off premises.

Wandering off is extremely dangerous for these patients and severe injury, even death, may occur. Caregivers and nursing homes may be held accountable for resulting injury if they failed to prevent the patient from wandering.  The San Francisco and California elder and nursing home abuse attorneys at Evans Law Firm, Inc. understand the standards of care expected of caregivers and nursing homes and can represent you or a loved one injured as a result of wandering or elopement which occurs due to lack of supervision.  Our attorneys know how to investigate these cases and what remedies are available to the victims.  If you or someone you know was injured wandering or from other neglect or elder abuse here in San Francisco or elsewhere in California, call the elder abuse and nursing home abuse attorneys at Evans Law Firm today at 415-441-8669, and we can help.

A senior who has wandered from home or facility grounds may encounter dangerous traffic conditions or severe weather, putting him or her at risk of serious injury and even death.  Injuries should be reported to the authorities (police and Adult Protective Services) immediately. Caregivers and nursing homes are required to report any such injuries and failure to do so may result in penalties and further consequences.  Always seek counsel such as the elder abuse lawyers at Evans Law Firm as well when injury occurs in order to pursue all available remedies against those accountable..
