San Francisco and California Elder Abuse and Securities Attorney: Check Your Brokerage Statements

ATTORNEY NEWSLETTER

Preventing Fraud and Abusive Practices

Always review your brokerage statements and trade confirmations carefully! That advice may sound obvious but the securities fraud lawyers at Evans Law Firm, Inc. want to underscore that important reminder.  Statements help you stay on top of your investments but also provide valuable information that can alert you to errors or even misconduct such as unauthorized trading or overcharging.  Trade confirmations are also important and include details of any trades (and charges) in your account. Make sure you authorized any trades that occurred!  Keep your eyes peeled for statements or confirmations that look unprofessional or altered in any way. This may signal fraud.  If you’re a senior, it’s probably a good idea to review your statements with a trusted friend or family member.  Two sets of eyes are always better than one when it comes to important papers!

The San Francisco and California securities fraud and financial elder abuse attorneys at Evans Law Firm. represent California consumers, including seniors, who have suffered from fraud and/or financial elder abuse at the hands of a stockbroker selling them inappropriate or unsuitable investments including annuities, churning their accounts or their annuities, overcharging, and/or failing to disclose material information. If you or a loved one lives in California and has suffered a loss as a result of financial elder abuse by a stockbroker, insurance agent, or other financial advisor, call us today at (415)441-8669.

Use all the resources at your disposal as you review your account statements. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), which polices the securities industry, offers tips on what to look for in your statements and red flags that may reveal misconduct or fraud. Our securities lawyers recommend you take a look at those tips and keep FINRA’s guidelines in mind when you review your statements.  The checklist can be found at: https://www.finra.org/file/alert-understand-your-brokerage-statements-trade-confirmations
