Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company
The Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (usually known as “MassMutual”) has long been a major provider of annuities and other insurance products, both nationally and here in the Bay Area. On November 15, 2012, the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) fined Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company related to several of its popular annuity products.
Since September 2007, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company has offered for sale certain variable annuities called “MassMutual Transitions Select” and “MassMutual Evolution” which were marketed to Bay Area seniors through prospectuses and sales literature. The Securities and Exchange Commission estimates that a significant amount of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company annuities may have been sold to senior citizens in the Bay Area.
