Insurance Agent Accused Of Stealing Seniors’ Premium Payments
Allegedly Swindles 93-Year Old Client
Funeral Insurance Policy Scam

The financial elder abuse litigators at Evans Law Firm, Inc. represent seniors here in Marin County and throughout California who have been victims of financial elder abuse by any persons or businesses, including insurance agents and agencies. Funeral Insurance Scam
In the reported case, the insurance agent allegedly swindled at least two seniors out of thousands of dollars by selling them funeral insurance and then pocketing their premium payments instead of purchasing the coverage. The first victim was 93 years old, according to officials. The Department of Insurance has identified a second victim, 90 years old, of the same type of scheme. As a result of the fraud, neither elderly victim ever received the funeral insurance coverage they had purchased. According to reports, the agent has been arraigned on felony financial elder abuse charges.
Steps To Prevent Abuse
Isolated seniors are particularly vulnerable to this kind of fraud because they have no trusted person helping them with business transactions, advising them, or reviewing paperwork presented to them by insurance agents or others. Financial predators act quickly and often pressure seniors for a quick sale or other transaction. Staying involved in a senior loved one’s life is really the only way to ward off these kinds of financial predators. Keep an eye on a senior’s bank accounts and make sure they do not enter any transaction without talking it over with you or a professional. Do not ever give a caregiver or other stranger a power of attorney. If you suspect any financial elder abuse, call elder counsel like the attorneys at Evans Law Firm immediately.
