Lassen County
Lassen County is located in Northern California along the border with Nevada. The county has one of the more diverse terrains in the state, containing deserts, forests, and mountains, all in close proximity to one another. It is notable for being home to three large prisons — the California Correctional Center, the High Desert State Prison, and the Federal Correctional Institution, Herlong, which collectively hold over 6,000 inmates. The prisons shape much of the county’s economy and culture, with about half of all adult residents being employed by them. The prisons’ effects on the county were the subject of the 2007 PBS documentary film Prison Town, USA, set in Susanville. The county is primarily rural, with only about 30,000 residents (a decrease from about 34,000 in 2010), although the southeastern portion of the county is only a short drive from Reno, Nevada.
The founder of the Evans Law Firm, Ingrid Evans, has extensive experience representing clients in Lassen County. As one of the premier elder law attorneys in the state, she focuses her practice primarily on issues of concern to the elderly, including physical elder abuse, nursing home abuse and neglect, and financial elder abuse. She also handles a variety of other types of cases concerning financial exploitation and fraud, including securities fraud, consumer fraud, annuity fraud, and insurance fraud. Because her clients are frequently some of the most vulnerable individuals in Lassen County, she takes a caring, compassionate approach with her clients but aggressively and zealously advocates for their interests in the courtroom. Along with co-counsel, Ingrid has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in damages for her clients.
