Genworth Life Insurance Company, Genworth Life and Annuity Insurance Company, and Genworth Life Insurance Company of New York agree to a multi-state settlement regarding life insurance and annuity practices. This was a multi-state examination that included Florida, California, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The settlement requires Genworth Life Insurance Company, Genworth Life and Annuity Insurance Company, and Genworth Life Insurance Company of New York to use the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File to attempt to locate possible beneficiaries that may have unclaimed property. Genworth Life Insurance Company, Genworth Life and Annuity Insurance Company, and Genworth Life Insurance Company of New York are taking “state of the art” steps to make sure that life insurance and annuity benefit payments are made as promptly as possible. Under the terms of the agreement, Genworth will regularly match all of its insureds and annuitants against the Death Master File to help promptly identify when and insured has died, to locate and make payments to beneficiaries. The states involved worked together to examine the companies’ practices and dozens of other life insurance and annuity companies entered into similar agreements including Aviva USA (Aviva Life and Annuity Company formerly known as American Investors Life Insurance).
