The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) has launched a toll-free line to support senior citizens and advise them on financial matters. The FINRA Securities Helpline for Seniors is designed to help older investors get neutral, informed advice regarding their brokerage accounts and investments, and avoid seniors from becoming victims of securities fraud.
The hotline will be open Monday-Friday from 9 AM- 5 PM ET, and can be reached at 844-57-HELPS or 844-574-3577. Seniors can speak with knowledgeable FINRA staff about how to review an investment portfolio or account statements, concerns regarding the handling of a brokerage account, and assistance with investor tools and resources from FINRA.
FINRA has ongoing initiatives to protect senior investors, which it views as a key priority. California securities fraud lawyers say that senior citizens often have unique needs that require special attention with regards to securities brokerage concerns, such as lack of outside income, potential health complications and diminished mental capacity. FINRA has also sponsored forums for regulators and securities industry representatives to discuss challenges and potential solutions regarding senior investors. It has also made the treatment of senior investors a top examination priority, according to California securities fraud lawyers.
