The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration oversees certain whistleblower programs. There are twenty two whistleblower statutes covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Whistleblowers are now able to file complaints online. This provides another way for whistleblowers that have been retaliated against to acquire some assistance. The Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health stated that whistleblower laws protect not only workers, but public at large and now workers will have an additional avenue available to file a complaint with OSHA. In the past, employees were able to complain to OSHA by filing written complaints, or by calling the agency’s 800 telephone number. The new method of being able to file online will likely increase the amount of complaints received by OSHA. The new online form allows workers to enter whistleblower complaint information so that they can be contacted for follow up. Additionally, the online complaints are automatically forwarded to the regional whistleblower investigators. People who wish to download the form and then send it in via mail or fax may do so.
