Caregiver Convicted Of Felony Elder Abuse In Salinas For Extreme Neglect

ATTORNEY NEWSLETTER

In just over a month, Daisy Yolanda Ramirez will appear for sentencing on multiple criminal charges. The charges stem from calls received by Monterey fire and police, to assist a senior client under the care of the forty-two year old caregiver. An investigation discovered that the elder under Ms. Ramirez’s care suffered extreme neglect. Ms. Ramirez entered a plea of no contest to the felony charge of elder abuse at her arraignment.

On top of the physical elder abuse, Ms. Ramirez defrauded the California government by not filing tax returns and by obtaining $39,245 in unemployment insurance because she failed to report her total of $44,982 in earnings while she was a caregiver. At her scheduled October 21, 2014 sentencing, Ms. Ramirez will likely receive felony probation, with an order to pay restitution to her elder abuse victim, the Franchise Tax Board, the Employment Development Department, and the Public Guardian’s Office.
