The $78 Million Man
Whistleblower awards just keep growing. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced this week that an investigative whistleblower will receive a combined award of $78 million for information he provided that a large national bank steered customers to the bank’s own investment funds which had higher fees than rivals’ funds.[1] The bank’s actions violated SEC and CFTC rules regarding investment advice to consumers. The bank settled the charges with both agencies for a total of $367 million.
The California whistleblower lawyers at Evans Law Firm, Inc. understand how important whistleblower information is to enforcement of securities laws in this country. And we know how best to present a whistleblower’s evidence of wrongdoing toward the goal of getting a reward for the whistleblower’s information and efforts. If you have information regarding a whistleblower case in San Francisco or elsewhere in California involving the SEC Whistleblower Program, False Claims Act cases, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Whistleblower Office, or a CFTC whistleblower case, contact the California whistleblower attorneys at Evans Law Firm, Inc. today at (415)441-8669.
Together, the two awards announced this week may be the largest- ever payday for a whistleblower, according to the New York Post. The whistleblower intends to keep on investigating Wall Street’s bad actors after he gets paid. “Winning these big awards allows me to do more forensic investigations,” he told the Post. Our California securities and whistleblower attorneys commend his plans. The current Administration has made clear its sympathies are not with American consumers. Increasingly, whistleblowers can play an important role in consumer protection and enforcement of our laws – and be justly rewarded for their efforts on behalf of us all.
