Why Martin Luther King Day Is Important For Seniors
Today, we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in honor of the man who transformed America and gave his life to make this country a better place for all people, regardless of race or creed or sex or wealth or any other distinction. Martin Luther King Day is particularly significant for seniors. Dr. King himself would have been 91 this year. As Dr. King noted, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” The elderly often feel forgotten and left behind. But ask any grandma living alone, and she all too well remembers all the days that passed without any visitors and how slowly the clock ticked. Reach out to any isolated seniors today. We must discover the power of love, the power, the redemptive power of love. And when we discover that we will be able to make of this old world a new world.
