Financial And Physical Elder Abuse With Tragic End
Body Of 72-Year-Old Senior Found
Caregiver Arrested On Allegations Of Abuse And Forgery
Sadly far too often, news stories appear of the most gruesome and shocking accounts of elder abuse. In a case[1] reported just days ago, authorities arrested a caregiver for concealing a senior’s death, four counts of forging his signature, and obstruction. Charges are still pending and the investigation is ongoing, but the allegations reveal just as horrible the combination of financial and physical abuse of the elderly came be. Our elder abuse litigators represent victims and their families against anyone responsible for abuse of a senior. If you have a senior loved one who has been abused here in Marin County or elsewhere in California, call us today at 415-441-8669, and we can help.
Facts are still scarce following the reported arrest, but authorities have revealed that the caregiver for the deceased senior forged his signature at least four times on checks and may have committed other acts of financial abuse. When he was reported as missing, the caregiver obstructed police investigation. The senior’s body was later discovered in woods near a Boy Scout Camp in a rural area. A subsequent investigation lead to the caregiver’s arrest. Our litigators have seen the same kind of tragic combination of physical and financial elder abuse.
These are especially trying times for staying active in a senior’s life. The perils of isolation, as this case reveals, are very real and potentially deadly. By any safe means keep watch over your older loved ones if they’re in a nursing home or, particularly if they are isolated at home under the care of an in-home caregiver. The economic downturn we’re in right now is driving people to desperate measures so an isolated senior is more vulnerable than ever to financial abuse especially. Call elder counsel such as the elder abuse litigators at Evans Law Firm, Inc. immediately if you suspect any form of abuse of an older loved one.
