Fatal Caregiver Abuse
Neglect of Bedridden Senior Results in Death
Neglect is a form of elder abuse that can kill a bedridden senior quickly. In a recently reported case with which we were not involved, a bedridden senior died after allegedly being neglected by a caregiver for a period of two weeks. The senior died in the hospital covered with bed sores/pressure wounds that had developed sepsis. The Alameda County and California elder abuse attorneys at Evans Law Firm, Inc. represent seniors and their loved ones victimized by neglect, abandonment or other physical and financial elder abuse by caregivers and others. If you or someone you know is a victim of elder abuse in Alameda County or elsewhere in California, call us today at 415-441-8669, and we can help.
If you have a loved one in a nursing home or under the care of an in-home caregiver, visit as often as possible and watch for signs of neglect or abuse:
• Bed sores/pressure wounds
• Bruises or scratch marks
• Signs of rape, sexual assault or battery
• Weight loss
• Drowsiness or excessive sleeping
• Slurred speech
• Unclean bed linens
• Signs of infrequent bathing or poor hygiene
• Withdrawn or hesitant manner
• Nervousness and anxiety
• Overmedication
Report suspicions of neglect elder abuse to Adult Protective Services and call qualified elder abuse counsel. While official reporting is important, you should pursue all civil remedies available to senior victims under California elder abuse laws. Our lawyers handle elder abuse cases of all varieties and know the remedies and extra damages to which you and your victimized loved one are entitled. Bringing a timely civil action against abusers can secure justice for an injured senior. California courts award attorneys’ fees to victimized seniors in certain cases and this can ease the burden of bringing a suit.
